Jangansan⛰️ 1237 m

Introduction

[A mountain famous for its valleys in summer and silver grass in autumn] Jangansan is the main mountain of Honam, overseeing the Geumnam and Honam mountain ranges and transmitting the energy of Baekdudaegan to Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces. It is known as a summer retreat and for its silver grass and autumn foliage. The area’s valleys and forest scenery are outstanding, leading to its designation as a county park by Jangsu County in 1986. The mountain features 26 large and small valleys, 7 ponds, 14 unique rock formations, and 5 mineral springs, creating spectacular ponds and waterfalls. On the eastern ridge of Jangansan, a vast field of silver grass spreads out, covering the entire ridge in autumn. The mountain has several trailheads, but the entrance near Deoksan Valley on the way to Beomnyeon-dong is preferred. There is a guide map and restrooms at the trail entrance.

Visitor guide

Getting there

The starting point is Jangsu. Buses to Deoksan-ri from Jangsu run twice daily at 08:35 and 16:30. Taxi fare is around 10,000 KRW. There is no public transportation to Mureung Pass, so visitors must go to the villages below the pass, Gwoemok or Daegok-ri, and walk up to the pass. From Gyenam-myeon to Gwoemok, a county bus runs six times daily. To Daegok-ri, buses run four times daily from Jangye-myeon. From the Jangsu IC on the Daejeon-Tongyeong Expressway, take Route 19 into Jangsu town, then turn left at the intersection with Local Road 742 to reach Deoksan-ri Beomnyeon-dong, the trailhead. Passing Beomnyeon-dong and reaching Jungjae, you meet Local Road 743; turning left at the intersection leads to Mureung Pass.
