On March 17, 1919, when the March 1st independence movement was actively spreading nationwide, Song Ju-il, Jo Byeong-ryeol, and others led a March 1st independence protest in Soryong-ri. On March 21, teacher Jeong Seon-yu, about 100 students, and residents held another independence demonstration. The 3.1 Movement Martyrs Jangseong Memorial Association erected this monument on September 30, 1972, to commemorate the March 1st movement martyrs from Jangseong.
