Cheongwansan⛰️ 724 m

Introduction

[A mountain shaped like a chicken's wing called Hanuibaram Mountain] It is a mountain shaped like a chicken's wing made of bisarit bamboo. When examining the mountain's structure based on the 400-meter contour line, there are as many as twenty ridges of bisarit bamboo. Overall, it forms a massive dome that overwhelms the viewer. It is known for its silver grass, celebrated with a festival on the first weekend of October. Due to sea winds, trees do not grow well here. The silver grass is found only along the main ridge between Sangbong, Yeondaebong, and Hwanhidae, yet it attracts crowds from all over the country. When accessed from the mainland, the entrance is through Gwansan-eup, so it is known as Gwansan Mountain, but originally it likely had a closer connection to Hoejin in Daedeok-eup. It was also called Cheonpungsan (Heavenly Wind Mountain), meaning Hanuibaram Mountain. This port at the tip of Jangheung Peninsula has been an important point on the South Sea route since ancient times. When King Geunchogo of Baekje conquered the Jeollanam-do region in cooperation with Imna-gun, they met here to complete their expedition, which is thought to be the origin of the character 'Hoe' meaning 'gathering.' Later, as Gwansan grew, the mountain's name may have been changed to Cheongwansan, inspired by a rock on the main ridge shaped like a traditional hat.
