History That Feels Closer in Untouched Nature in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Inje-gun · schedule Other · distance 37.2km · 5 stops · highlig…

There is history in nature. It is even better if it is nature that humanity has protected and inhabited. The Korea DMZ Peace Life Hill and Yongneup Natural Ecology School showcase our traditional history set within pristine natural landscapes. Hapgangjeong, the first pavilion in the Inje region, also embodies the Joseon era history of enjoying poetry in front of nature. The Mountain Village Folk Museum, where you can see past lives intertwined with nature in a harsh rural area, is also fascinating.

Hapgangjeong Pavilion, located in Hapgang 2-ri, Inje-eup, is named after Hapgang, where the Naerimcheon and Inbukcheon rivers merge. It is the first pavilion in the Inje area, built in 1676 (the 2nd year of King Sukjong's reign) and rebuilt in 1756 (the 32nd year of King Yeongjo's reign) after being destroyed by fire. Next to Hapgangjeong Pavilion is Gangwon-do Jungangdan, an altar made during the Joseon Dynasty. Jungangdan is an altar at the center of each province in the Joseon era where special rituals were held to appease spirits who had died unjustly or had been neglected in rites to prevent epidemics or droughts. Gangwon-do Jungangdan is known to have held these rituals until around 1843.
