Daeryong Market is an alley market recreated to resemble Yeonbaek Market in the hometown of residents who temporarily fled from Yeonbaek-gun, Hwanghae-do to Gyodongdo during the Korean War, as the Han River estuary became the division line preventing their return. For over 50 years, it was the economic center of Gyodongdo, but as most of the displaced elders who founded the market passed away and the population rapidly declined, the market significantly shrank. However, since the opening of the Gyodong Bridge in July 2014, Daeryong Market, with its 1960s movie set-like appearance, has become a must-visit spot for tourists capturing its charm on camera. Since late March, the Gyodong Giga Island (also known as 'Gyodong Jebi House') has been operating, offering IT-based tourism guidance, bicycle and smartwatch rentals, as well as various experience programs such as 'VR video experiences' and 'making the Gyodong newspaper' for visitors.
