Osu Permanent Market opened on May 15, 1932. It is a historic market that has lasted for an impressive 80 years. Although it is now cleanly built as a modern building, it originally began as a thatched-roof market. However, over the past 10 years, reconstruction projects were carried out, resulting in its current appearance. Osu market days fall on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th of each month. One reason the Osu market has been beloved for so long is due to its fresh seafood. In particular, during the butterfish season from June to August, it is so popular that many people from all over the country visit. In addition, various seafood such as flower crabs, croakers, and octopus caught in the nearby sea, as well as various vegetables, fruits, fish, and sundries sold by local farmers, are offered at affordable prices, making it popular among locals. Osu market is a transportation hub connecting Namwon, Sunchang, Jangsu counties, and 7 myeons, and on market days, the bustling crowd of merchants and people from different areas creates a lively atmosphere. The scenes of rustic villagers bargaining over the prices of goods vividly preserve the charm of a countryside market.
