Gwanchon Market, located in Gwanchon-ri, Gwanchon-myeon, Imsil-gun, is a traditional market established in 1914 with over 100 years of history. The market is surrounded by residential complexes, educational facilities, and public institutions, resulting in a large flow of people. The locally produced chili peppers, a specialty, grow at an altitude of 300m, developing a unique spicy flavor due to warm sunlight during the day and cold winds at night. The market thrives with chili merchants from across the country and operates daily as a permanent market. On the market days, the 5th and 10th, a variety of fresh agricultural products from farms in five nearby myeons gather, making parking spaces insufficient due to the crowd. The chili peppers, a specialty of the Gwanchon area, are famous nationwide for their excellent taste and quality, and the market held during shipping season is one of the largest in the country. During harvest season, red chili auctions are conducted daily, attracting a spectacle of buyers and sellers. Like other regional five-day markets, various agricultural products and wild vegetables such as bracken and chwinamul gathered from nearby hillsides are also sold.
