Okjeongho is an artificial lake created by the construction of the Seomjingang multipurpose dam, playing an important role as a multipurpose dam supplying agricultural water to the Honam Plain. It is connected to the Honam Jeongmaek mountains of the Noryeong mountain range, including Obongsan, Guksabong, and Hoemunsan, with a terrain where Obongsan and Guksabong seem to embrace the lake, famous for its different scenery in each of the four seasons. In particular, Carp Island in the center of the lake is a famous spot frequented by photographers for its beautiful views combined with water mist, and the view overlooking from Guksabong is reminiscent of Baekdusan Cheonji. Around Okjeongho, there is a 13 km-long water mist trail allowing visitors to enjoy the lakeside scenery closely.
Seomjingang Dam is a concrete gravity dam located in Gangjin-myeon, Imsil-gun, Jeollabuk-do, and is Korea's first multipurpose dam, completed in December 1965. The dam crosses between Yongsu-ri, Gangjin-myeon in the upper reaches of the Seomjin River and Jongsong-ri, Sannae-myeon, Jeongeup-si. It supplies agricultural water to the downstream Dongjin River and Gehwado reclaimed land and helps alleviate power shortages in the Honam region. A national bike trail passes around the dam, so many cyclists can be seen. Also, near Seomjingang Dam, you can visit the Seomjingang Dam Water Culture Center, where exhibits related to the history of the Seomjin River and water resources are on display.
Located in the upper reaches of the Seomjin River, Gudam Village was established around 180 years ago during the Joseon Sukjong era by the Haejoo Oh family. The original name of Gudam Village was Andamul, but it became known as Gudam [龜潭] because of the abundance of mudfish inhabiting the Seomjin River flowing in front of the village, or as Gudam [九潭] meaning nine ponds. The river flowing in front of the village and the plum blossoms naturally blooming on hills and slopes along the river create beautiful scenery. The mountains and river viewed from beneath the pavilion tree resemble a watercolor painting, and during the plum blossom season, this scenic spot attracts tourists, painters, and professional photographers.
