Hwaseong Gojung-ri Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site has historical and academic value as the place where not only dinosaur egg fossils but also dinosaur fossils with fully preserved skeletons, the only ones in Korea, were discovered. The fossil site was once an island before the creation of Sihwa Lake, with about 30 nests approximately 1m in size found. Based on this, it has been inferred that the Sihwa Lake area was a mass nesting ground for dinosaurs in the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era about 100 million years ago. Inside the visitor center at the dinosaur egg fossil site, a model of the dinosaur bone fossil of ‘Koreaceratops hwaseongensis,’ the first dinosaur discovered in Korea, is displayed. This fossil was found by a Hwaseong City Hall official preparing for a yacht competition at Jeongok Port and represented a new kind of dinosaur never before discovered worldwide, named Koreaceratops hwaseongensis. Across from the visitor center, a trail stretches about 3 km from the entrance to the dinosaur egg fossil site, equipped with a wooden deck for comfortable exploration. The endless grassland is nicknamed "Korea's Serengeti" because it resembles the Serengeti in Africa. At the trail’s end, a nameless island newly named after the creation of a promenade allows visitors to see the fault and dinosaur egg shapes from that time. This site also features glasses-shaped dinosaur eggs, the first egg fossils discovered at the fossil site.
Sihwa Lake is an artificial lake created in Siheung-si, Ansan-si, and Hwaseong-si of Gyeonggi-do. The name Sihwa Lake comes from the first letters of the two ends of the entire seawall, Siheung-si and Hwaseong-si. Sihwa Lake once had many problems due to water pollution, but through continuous water quality improvement and management system establishment, ecological restoration and management of the Sihwa Lake ecosystem, and maximizing resource use in the watershed, it has been systematically managed to become a safe space for citizens. It is now inhabited by natural monument-protected birds such as the whooper swan, bar-tailed godwit, little ringed plover, yellow-billed stork, and black-headed gull, as well as mudflat organisms. The tidal power plant installed in the middle of Sihwa Lake can supply power to households in a city of 500,000 people.
Daebudo, known as the Hawaii of Ansan, is an island connected to the mainland by the Sihwa Coastal Road, yet the island’s romance and lyricism still remain everywhere. Above all, the route to Daebudo offers a unique drive linking island to island. Crossing the Seonjaedaegyo Bridge from Daebudo leads to Seonjaedo, and crossing the Yeongheungdaegyo Bridge from Seonjaedo leads to Yeongheungdo. Places such as Tando, known for its black stones; Buldo, where a Buddha appeared; Seongamdo, where immortals once roamed; Yukdo, called so because six islands stand shoulder to shoulder in the West Sea like brothers; and Pungdo, noted for its distinctive lifestyle of residents moving to nearby Dorido in winter to harvest oysters and clams and returning before the Lunar New Year, all hold unique charm. Daebudo offers tidal flat experiences on its wide mudflats, beautiful sunset views, and is famous for clam kalguksu and grilled shellfish restaurants along the coast, making it a beloved day-trip course for metropolitan citizens.
