Hongju Volunteer Soldiers Memorial Tower | Attraction Guide

The Hongju Volunteer Soldiers Memorial Tower was established in 2013. It commemorates the noble spirit of the Hongju volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country and the nation. The tower was built to serve as an educational site for future generations by reviving the patriotism and self-sacrificing spirit of those who perished. The memorial is designed around the basic elements symbolizing sky, earth, and people, featuring stairs shaped after Hongju Fortress, Wolgyejeon, and Hongseongcheon. It includes two towers inscribed with the years of uprising (1895 and 1906), statues and bas-reliefs symbolizing the Hongju volunteer soldiers, a sphere and gatepost connecting Hongseong’s past, present, and future, and a monument recording the soldiers of Hongju, thereby representing the patriotic spirit of the Hongju volunteer soldiers.
