Haeinsa is one of the three major temples in Korea, founded in the 3rd year of King Aejang of Silla by monks Sun-eung and Lee Jeong, and is also famous as a Beopbojongchal (Dharma treasure temple) named after the Haeinsammae of the Avatamsaka Sutra. King Taejo of Goryeo made this temple a national temple of Goryeo and granted it 500 gyeol of land in gratitude for Heerang, who stayed at this temple and helped repel Gyeonhwon of Later Baekje. Haeinsa is a Beopbojongchal and one of the ten Avatamsaka temples. The name 'Haein' originates from the 'Haeinsammae' of the Avatamsaka Sutra, and Haeinsa was established as a spiritual center to propagate Avatamsaka thought. Haeinsa is called a Beopbo temple, one of Korea's Sambo temples, because it houses the Beopbo of the Goryeo Tripitaka in the Daejanggeungpanjeon (Tripitaka Hall). Haeinsa has many halls including Daejanggeungpanjeon, Daejeokgwangjeon, Myeongbujeon, Dokseonggak, and Eungjinjeon. Its subsidiary hermitages include Wondangam, Hongjeam, Yongtapseonwon, Gounam, Ganweolam, and Cheongnyangsa.
On the way to Haeinsa in Hapcheon, Gyeongnam, famous for the Tripitaka Koreana (Palman Daejanggyeong), a Sanchae Hanjeongsik street has been established. Among them, Busan Restaurant specializes in sanchae dishes such as Sanchae Jeongsik, Sanchae Bibimbap, and Shiitake Mushroom Jeongsik. The most popular menu, Busan Restaurant Special Set, includes various wild vegetable side dishes, grilled deodeok, green onion pancake, and acorn jelly. You can also find dishes made from various mountain vegetables from Gayasan, such as Beef Bulgogi Jeongsik, Sanchae Hanjeongsik, Shiitake Mushroom Jeongsik, and Sanchae Bibimbap. Gayasan Haeinsa is a temple where many traditional relics and the Tripitaka Koreana are preserved, making it a travel destination where you can enjoy tourism and taste sanchae hanjeongsik.
