Designated on December 29, 1967 as Korea's first national park, Jirisan spans three provinces (Gyeongsangnam-do, Jeollanam-do, Jeonbuk Special Autonomous-do), one city, four counties, and 15 eup/myeon administrative districts, covering an area of 483.022 km², making it the largest mountainous national park among Korea's 22 national parks. The Gyeongnam area is rich in tourism resources such as temples including Ssanggyesa, Daewonsa, Naewonsa, Beopgyesa, Chilbulsa, Silsangsa, as well as waterfalls and valleys. In particular, the Hamyang area is famous for Chilsun and Hansin valleys.
