Completed in 2003 to coincide with the opening day of Gwangalli Beach, Gwangalli Beach Theme Street hosts various festivals and events every year. It has become a new attraction of Gwangalli Beach with artificial palm trees, sculptures, benches, and green spaces. The theme street along the beach is a pedestrian-centered public relaxation area that creates an exotic atmosphere. It extends along the coastal road from Hyupjin Taeyang Mansion in Namcheon-dong to Millak Hoe Town, featuring sidewalks on the beach side, sculptures such as the Observation Pavilion, streetlamps, tree plants, and benches, divided into the street of romance, the sunrise plaza, and the street of youth. To emphasize the pedestrian street concept, clay blocks cover the entire section. With the creation of Gwangalli Beach Theme Street, the area around Gwangalli Beach, which faced a steep decline after the construction of Subway Line 2, has regained its former fame as a street of youth, festivals, and family, also revitalizing the local commercial district. Throughout the year, numerous tourists from all over the country visit the beautiful Gwangalli Beach. Strolling along the well-maintained beach street, they enjoy the splendid night view of Gwangandaegyo Bridge and delicious food in Gwangalli Cafe Street and Millak Hoe Town, leaving lasting memories of a street of romance and nostalgia.
Dongbaek Park is a park created on Dongbaek Island located at the southern end of Haeundae Beach. It was designated as park land in September 1966 and was developed in earnest in the 1990s. It is a beautiful natural area thick with camellia and pine trees, connected to the mainland by a sandbar. In 2006, when the APEC event was held in Busan, Dongbaek Park was refurbished with landscaping restoration, installation of an observation deck, coastal maintenance, mountain plaza and circular road improvements, rest plazas, and parking lots, making it a popular tourist destination. In addition to walking paths, there are amenities such as a badminton court, benches, and restrooms. Major facilities include the Choi Chi-won historic site, Nurimaru APEC House, Haeundae stone carving, and a mermaid statue on the beach in front of the park related to the legend of Princess Hwangok who married a king of the Mugung country. The coastal walking path around Dongbaek Island is ideal for walking or exercise.
Haeundae Beach boasts a wide white sandy shore and beautiful coastline, offering ideal conditions for swimming with shallow waters and gentle waves. It is the most iconic spot representing Busan, often the first place that comes to mind when thinking of the city, and it attracts the largest crowds in the country, especially during the summer vacation season. The coastline is lined with large and small buildings and luxury hotels, giving the beach a modern and sophisticated atmosphere. It is bustling with youthful energy year-round, not only in summer, and is well-known among international tourists. Every year, the beach hosts a full moon festival on the first full moon day of the lunar new year. Additionally, the annual Polar Bear Swimming Contest held in winter has established itself as a representative winter festival. Other events include sand art exhibitions and the Busan Sea Festival. Nearby attractions around the beach include Dongbaekseom Island, Oryukdo, an aquarium, yacht races, and Bexco Dalmaji Hill. ◎ Travel information to experience the charm of Hallyu - The drama features scenes where Nam-soon and her Mongolian mother create the word 'sea' in shells on the sand and enjoy taking pictures together.
Haeundae refers to the Dongbaek (冬柏) Island located on the east coast of Haeundae-gu, Busan, but today it refers to the coastal area and hills known as 'Dalmaji-gil.' Dalmaji-gil, also called Busan's Montmartre, has long been a representative scenic spot of the area where blue sea, white sandy beaches, camellia forests, and pine forests harmonize, and it is one of Busan's eight scenic views (Busanpal-gyeong). The evening moon viewed from Haeundae Dalmaji Cape and Cheongsapo (靑沙浦) is considered charming and included in the Eight Views of Korea (Daehanpal-gyeong). The road from Haeundae Beach to Songjeong Beach, known as '15 Curve Road' (15 Gokdo), forms a popular driving course. Here, especially on the first full moon of the lunar year, visitors can fully enjoy the atmosphere of the sea mixed with moonlight. Also, in the middle of the road, there is Dalmaji Hill, featuring a monument built of natural stone, and the Dalmaji pavilion Haewoljeong (海月亭), which is built in the style of an old pavilion, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere.
