Duryunsan⛰️ 700 m

Introduction

[A bizarre formation resembling a lobster holding a yeouiju pearl] It is the southernmost mountain worthy of the name. Being a massif, it is solid but not particularly outstanding. However, Seosan Daesa, who had a keen eye for mountains, left his monk's belongings—clothes and rice bowl—here, suggesting there is something special about it. It cannot be discovered just by entering. One must walk through the long spring valley, Jangchun Valley, then ascend not the main peak but the opposite side to Hyangrobong (469m), sit cross-legged, and observe the mountain's shape. The left blue dragon descends from Dosolbong (673.2m), the right white tiger is the ridge of Gogaebong (638m). The headwaters start from Duryunbong (630m), all converging at the valley in front of Daeheungsa Temple. At the auspicious spot between the peaks where the headwaters rise and fall, there is the shrine Pyochungsa dedicated to Seosan Daesa. His belongings were enshrined in a place like Sangwonsa Temple on Odaesan, indicating Duryunsan's significant earth virtue. The seven peaks—Gogaebong, Sangbong, Garyeonbong, Dosolbong (672m, marked as Daedunsan on the National Geographic Institute map), Yeonhwabong (613m), Hyeolmangbong (379m), and Hyangrobong—form a spiral shape surrounding the famous Daeheungsa Temple. Following the 400-meter contour line reveals a giant lobster holding a yeouiju pearl. This unique formation allowed Duryunsan to nurture Daeheungsa and rise to the rank of a renowned mountain.
