Since ancient times, the natural market formed where Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do meet along the Seomjin River in the Hadong region, exchanging goods. The town market, which inspired the novel 'Toji,' has continued through the ages and became Hadong Public Market. Officially opened in 1977, the market operates on 13,625㎡ with 47 buildings and 471 stalls. Although it faced decline in the 2000s due to large marts and department stores, it has transformed into a tourist market by residents' will.
