Hayang Pogyo-dang in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk is an Amitabha worship hall and a branch temple of Eunhae-sa, the main temple of the Jogye Order's 10th district. There are no exact records of its founding period. It is known to have been established in the early Joseon era, and due to the Joseon Dynasty's policy of promoting Confucianism and suppressing Buddhism, it lost its original temple function and was used as a guesthouse for Confucian students. In 1927, Ven. Jiseokdam restored the temple. Along with restoration, Jiseokdam brought a Buddha statue from Eunhae-sa, enshrined as the current main Buddha in the Geungnakjeon Hall. In 2001, Ven. Seongbon, appointed as chief monk, renovated the deteriorated temple grounds, expanding the small Geungnakjeon Hall from about 5 pyeong to 34 pyeong, repairing Chilseonggak, enshrining the Buddha in Seolbeopjeon, and constructing a kitchen, renewing the temple complex to about 1,000 pyeong, one of the five largest in the urban basin nationwide. The temple diligently promotes the Buddha's compassion and teachings. Hayang Pogyo-dang holds daily dawn services at 5 a.m., daytime services at 10 a.m., and evening services at 6:30 p.m., as well as monthly ceremonies on the lunar calendar's 1st day, Jijangjaeil (18th day), and Gwaneumjaeil (24th day). The temple also engages in various social volunteer activities. The affiliated Buddhist Youth Association regularly visits senior centers and child welfare facilities to deliver necessities and perform consolation events. Children’s Dharma meetings have been continuously held, and since 2019, Eunhae-sa Buddhist University lectures have been offered at Hayang Pogyo-dang, providing education activities for local Buddhists.
