Hongsangri Cheongmaesil Farm

📍 Jeollanam-do Gwangyang-si Daap-myeon Jimak 1-gil 55

Introduction

Cheongmaesil Farm is located at the foot of Baegunsan Mountain, which has an elevation of 1,217 meters, covering an area of 50,000 pyeong. Mr. Hongsangri officially developed the plum orchard into the famous plum blossom site it is today, supported by the long-term efforts of his late father-in-law, Yulsan Kim Ocheon, who planted chestnut and plum trees on the mountain. When Kim Ocheon secured the land for the plum orchard spanning hundreds of thousands of pyeong, daughter-in-law Hongsangri expanded the plum trees and improved the seeds, earning the nickname "Plum Doctor." Hongsangri was designated as the government's Master Artisan No. 14, recognized as a leading figure regarding plums and plum blossoms. Gwangyang Maehwa Village, also known as the Maehwa Informatization Village or Seomjingang Maehwa Village, largely centers around Hongsangri Cheongmaesil Farm. Generally, when referring to Gwangyang Maehwa Village, it is usually Hongsangri Cheongmaesil Farm. In March, when plum blossoms bloom, the farm is filled not only with blue plums and red plums but also with drooping plums and sansuyu (cornelian cherry). Every spring, a plum blossom festival is held around Cheongmaesil Farm. Throughout the farm, there are photo zones, and from the pavilion observatory, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the plum blossom village, the Seomjin River, and Hadong village across the river, making it a popular destination.
