Located in Gwangyang-si, whose name means warmly shining sunlight since ancient times, Baekhakdong Village is a region neighboring Hadong-gun in Gyeongnam, situated between Baegunsan Mountain and the Seomjin River. The village is famous for dried persimmons, bracken, plums, sweet persimmons, gorosoe sap, as well as chestnuts, hop shoots, chopi, taro stems, Neungi mushrooms, and acorns. Equipped with pensions and camping facilities, it is mainly visited by tourists who come to Baegunsan and the valleys for camping.
Baegunsan Eochi Valley, covering Daap-myeon, Jinsang-myeon, and Okryong-myeon in Gwangyang-si, stretches 7km along the foothills of Baegunsan Mountain. It is one of the four major valleys of Baegunsan, along with Seongbul, Donggok, and Geumcheon Valleys, and is the deepest valley among them. Named after Eochi-ri village, it is also called Golisu [骨利水], serving as the source of Baegunsan Gorosoe mineral water. Notable spots include the wide and cool rock formation Orodae, where dew forms even at noon, and Gushi Waterfall, with its legend of Cheonma. The valley is a popular weekend relaxation and summer water play spot. The name 'Eochi' is a Sino-Korean transcription of 'Neurinjae' or 'Nejae,' referring to a gently winding mountain pass. Baegunsan Eochi Valley offers unique experiences and memories throughout all four seasons and provides local residents with various agricultural products. It functions well as a tourist destination and recreational area, generating significant economic benefits compared to other regions. At the downstream end of Eochi Valley lies Su-eo Reservoir. Nearby attractions include Neuraengigol Natural Recreation Forest and Gwangyang Christian Centennial Memorial Hall.
Baegunsan Mountain, rising 1,222 meters above sea level in the central southern part of the Korean Peninsula, is a sacred mountain holding three spiritual energies of phoenix, pig, and fox. It branches from Baekdudaegan and completes the Honam Jeongmaek that extends powerfully over Honam Plains, and is a famous mountain that collects the 550-ri waterway of the Seomjin River. The Gusi Waterfall located here has a shape like a long feeding trough for cows or pigs (Gusi means feeding trough) between rocky cliffs and is said never to dry up even in severe droughts. On Dano and Hanro festivals, immortals enjoyed elegance here, and now many tourists visit in the summer vacation season.
