The Gwangju Seonggeosa Site Five-Story Stone Pagoda is a Goryeo Dynasty pagoda full of stability and elegance, also known as Gwangju West Five-Story Stone Pagoda. It is erected on a turtle-head-shaped protruding terrain inside Gwangju Park. It is the only stone pagoda in Gwangju with the first-story body divided into upper and lower parts. The difference in the first-story pagoda body is that the lower part is composed of four pieces and contains filling inside. Additionally, it is the only pagoda in Gwangju with a separate stone foundation under the first story. Overall, the foundation is very thick, especially the upper shield's eaves, which are nearly the same thickness as the shield itself. Compared to the Gwangju Jisandong Five-Story Stone Pagoda (Gwangju East Five-Story Stone Pagoda), which is often mistaken for a twin pagoda, features such as the number of corner pillars on the foundation, the first-story body composition, and the expression of the foundation prove it was built later. Both pagodas share notable similarities in the position and number of the central holes.
