[A Mountain of Silver Grass Winding Along the Namhan River] Taehwa Mountain, which forms the boundary between Gangwon Province and Chungbuk, is a large and beautiful mountain befitting its name. It also has a charming silver grass field, making it suitable for autumn hiking. However, it is less well known because it is overshadowed by nearby Chiaksan in Wonju, Sobaeksan in Danyang, and Wolaksan National Park. For this reason, Taehwa Mountain still offers pristine natural beauty untouched by human footsteps. Moreover, the Namhan River flows windingly around its foothills, and it embraces the Gosi Cave, which holds mysteries dating back 400 million years, adding to the hiking experience. The soft ridgeline, which changes beautifully through the four seasons, offers scenic views and makes it an ideal mountain for family hikes. The main trailheads for Taehwa Mountain are Yeongchun, Palgoeri, and Gosi Cave, but the Gosi Cave route is steep, so Yeongchun or Palgoeri are more commonly used as starting points.
The starting point is Yeongwol. Yeongwol to Yeongchun: 6 times daily. Yeongwol to Heungwol and Palgoeri: 4 times daily. From Seojecheon IC on the Jungang Expressway, take Route 5 towards Jecheon, then Route 38 towards Yeongwol, and from Yeongwol take Local Route 88 to Taehwa Mountain.
