Ononsa is the guesthouse of Gwacheon-hyeon built in the 27th year of King Injo of the Joseon Dynasty (1649). A guesthouse is a place where the royal wooden plaque (jeonpae), symbolizing the king, is enshrined. People performed a ceremony at the guesthouse, bowing toward the palace where the king resided on certain dates. The guesthouse was also used as lodging for foreign envoys and government officials. It had a higher status than the local governor's office (dongheon). Therefore, it was located in the most central area of the district, and the building was constructed with great sincerity. Ononsa is the guesthouse where King Jeongjo (1776–1800) stayed on his way back from visiting Hyeonryungwon, the tomb of his father Sado Seja in Suwon. The name Ononsa comes from the comfort King Jeongjo felt resting here, while the dongheon where the provincial officials worked was called Burinheon. It is said that King Jeongjo personally wrote the plaque here. The building features a typical guesthouse style with the roof's center slightly higher than the sides. The current guesthouse building was constructed in the 27th year of Injo (1649) and originally stood at the site of the present Jungang-dong Community Service Center but was relocated here in 1986.
