Gurye 5-Day Market has been one of the representative rural markets in the Yeongnam and Honam regions, along with Hwagae Market. This market is considerably larger than other 5-day markets and attracts people from Hadong, Gokseong, Namwon, Suncheon, Gwangyang, and more, making it a lively place. It is especially famous for wild vegetables and medicinal herbs, including various mountain vegetables such as matsutake mushrooms, bracken, deodeok, chwi, and jaksongcha collected from Jirisan and Baegunsan, as well as the particularly well-known mugwort-chaesang and medicinal herbs. In addition, local specialties like cornelian cherries, chestnuts, plums, and persimmons are widely traded. Cornelian cherries produced in Gurye account for 50% of Korea’s total production. Also, owing to the presence of the Seomjin River, freshwater snails are a well-known traded item. To accommodate visitors’ food needs, the market has established eight "Youth Shops," bringing new vitality to the 5-day market. Traditional foods such as red bean porridge and sugure gukbap (beef soup with soft tendons) are also available, offering diverse taste experiences. "Gurye Moa," which displays and sells Gurye specialties, is also located in the market. Gurye 5-Day Market is about a 2-minute drive or a 10-minute walk from Gurye Public Bus Terminal and is close to Seosicheon River.
