Unification Security Park is the gateway that must be passed to reach the Unification Observatory. Before entering the Unification Observatory, visitors watch a video at the Security Education Center, which has an auditorium seating about 700 people simultaneously. In front of the Security Education Center is the Bell of Peace, symbolizing the desire for peaceful unification. Above the parking lot towards Donghae-daero, there is the Horim Guerrilla Battle Monument. It was established to honor the Horim Guerrilla Unit that sacrificed themselves while blocking the North Korean armed guerrilla invasion just before the Korean War. At the top of the monument stands a statue of a guerrilla soldier holding a torch high, representing an indomitable spirit.

Standing on the 70m high Unification Observatory where the Military Demarcation Line and Southern Limit Line meet, you can see Guseonbong and Haegumgang of Geumgangsan nearby, and on clear days, Oknyubong, Chaehabong, and Ilchulbong are visible. The frontline outpost facing the Demilitarized Zone fence below gives a sense of the tension between South and North Korea. This is a representative tourist site in Goseong visited by over 1.5 million tourists annually, featuring religious facilities such as a statue of the Virgin Mary, Maitreya Buddha statue, and Jeonjin Iron Tower for displaced persons longing for the mountains and families left behind in the North and those praying for reunification, as well as security education exhibits like armored vehicles, tanks, and airplanes. The Donghae Line inter-Korean connecting road, opened in December 2004, enables views of the land route tours to Geumgangsan.

통일전망대에서는 동족상잔의 비극을 교훈삼고 민족화합과 조국의 평화통일을 염원하기 위해 6.25전쟁을 체험할 수 있는 6.25전쟁체험전시관을 개관·운영하고 있다.

지구 상에 남아 있는 유일한 분단국의 상징인 DMZ를 통하여 지난 1950년 한국전쟁 발발 전후 모습과, 휴전협정으로 탄생한 휴전선이 갖는 역사적인 의미, 이로 인해 나타난 동족 간 이산의 아픔, 지속되는 군사적인 충돌, 60여 년간 사람의 손길이 닿지 않아 원형 그대로 보존되어 있는 생태환경 등을 전시물이나 영상물로 재구성하였다.

화진포역사안보전시관(김일성·이기붕·이승만 별장)은 울창한 소나무 숲과 넓은 호수, 명사십리와 청정바다가 한데 어우러진 빼어난 자연경관을 자랑하는 고성의 대표적인 관광지다.
