Established in 1937, Gongju Sanseong Market is located below the fortress wall of Gongsanseong, the royal palace site of Baekje, giving it historical and cultural significance. In 2011, it was selected as one of the 50 Traditional Markets to Visit by the Small and Medium Business Administration and Market Management Promotion Agency. In 2012, it was chosen for the Specialized Market Development Project, becoming a cultural tourism market linked to nearby historic and cultural sites and tourist attractions. The radio station Sorimaru, run by the merchants, plays a major role in revitalizing the market. Throughout the year, the market offers various festivals such as the Garaetteok sharing event and Ssireum wrestling competitions.
