Heungseong Dongheon is a Joseon Dynasty government office building located near Seonunsan IC in Heungdeok-myeon, Gochang. The building was originally known as Heungdeok Guesthouse. However, during dismantling and restoration in 1983, a ridge beam inscription was discovered, revealing that it was a Dongheon. The inscription states that the Dongheon of Heungseong Eup Fortress was relocated in 1807 (the 7th year of King Sunjo). Heungseong is the former name of Heungdeok, which was merged into Gochang-gun along with Mujang-myeon in 1914. Heungseong Dongheon is modest in size, with a single-eave roof, five bays wide at the front and three bays deep. Both ends of the building have ondol rooms, and the front three bays have raised wooden floors. Usually, a government office has a main hall enshrining the king's spirit tablet facing the capital and side wings for storage, but all functions were performed within a single building at Heungseong Dongheon. In 1976, it was designated as a Jeollabuk-do Tangible Cultural Property. Nearby attractions include the West Sea Julpo Bay, Dongnim Reservoir, Seonunsan, and Seonunsa, which can be visited together.
