Bongha Village is named because it is a village located below the Bonghwasan Bongsu Fortress. It was the late President Roh Moo-hyun's dream to restore the village where he caught frogs and crayfish as a child and pass on a living and beautiful ecosystem to children. The president was born and spent his childhood at his birthplace next to his residence in Bongha Village, and during his boyhood he walked about an hour to the elementary and middle schools in the town. Except for his high school years studying in Busan and his military service, he lived his newlywed life and prepared for state exams in the village. Most of the villagers have lived in Bongha Village for a long time and have many connections and memories with President Roh.
