[The main ridge of Daegan embracing Jikjisa, the foremost temple of Dongguk] Hwangak Mountain features peaks such as Birobong (1111.4m), Baegunbong (770m), Sinseonbong (944m), and Unsobong (740m), which rise prominently and gently surround Jikjisa Temple. The terrain is flat and gentle, with a soft, silky appearance. At the entrance, old pine and oak trees line both sides of the valley, creating a magnificent canopy. The mountain is located 12 km west of Gimcheon city, situated along the Baekdudaegan mountain range. Historically, it was also called Hwanghaksan due to the many cranes visiting, but it is recorded as Hwangaksan on the Jikjisa signboard and in the Taekriji. The dense forest and deep valleys contain crystal-clear water like jade, with beautiful autumn foliage and winter snow scenes. From the summit, one can see Munjujisan to the west, Sudosan and Gayasan to the south, Geumosan to the east, and Poseongbong to the north. The main peak and other summits extend eastward, forming the Naewon and Unsu valleys, with Jikjisa located at their confluence, as if receiving all the mountain's energy.
The starting point is Gimcheon. From Gimcheon Station to the entrance of Jikjisa, regular buses (No. 11) and seat buses (No. 111) operate every 10 minutes from 06:00 to 22:40, taking about 20 minutes. By car, take the Gyeongbu Expressway Gimcheon IC, then Route 4 towards Daejeon Yeongdong, about 15 minutes.
