Summer Trip to Sudosan and Cheongamsa in Gimcheon in Gyeongsangbuk-do Gimcheon City · schedule Other · distance 35km · 3 stops · highlights Cheongamsa T…

Sometimes a trip alone to a quiet and secluded place feels charming. At such times, I recommend the Cheongamsa course. On Sudosan in Gimcheon, known for its beautiful mountains and clean water, there is no trace of heat, and the sound of cool water and the natural sounds of the forest make me truly myself. It is not a noisy trip, but perhaps in the solitude alone, one can reach the true meaning of travel.

Cheongamsa Temple is located on Bulyongsan Mountain and is a branch temple of Jikjisa Temple, the 8th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It is an ancient temple established by Doseon Guksa in the 3rd year of King Heonan of Silla (859). According to historical records, it was completely destroyed by fire in the 25th year of King Injo of Joseon (1647), but upon hearing this, monk Byeokam Gakseong ordered monk Heojeong Hyewon to rebuild it, and Hyewon devoted great effort to reviving Cheongamsa Temple. Later, during the time Queen Inhyeon, wife of King Sukjong, was associated with the Seoin faction, she performed special prayers at the temple's Geukrakjeon Hall, establishing a close connection with the royal family. The red pine forest of Bulyongsan was designated a national protected forest, and weapons and other items were bestowed from the royal court. Cheongamsa Temple was also famous as a place where royal concubines practiced their faith until the late Joseon period.

Sudosan, one of the famous mountains in the Sobaek Mountain Range, features beautiful landscapes of surrounding valleys such as Daegacheon and Muheulgugok, and is home to renowned ancient temples like Cheongamsa and Sudoam. The summit is rocky and hosts clusters of shrubs and herbaceous plants including azaleas, broom, and silver grass. Located at the foot of Sudosan, Sudosan Natural Recreation Forest is surrounded by dense forest, with a valley along an approximately 4km forest road where clear water flows year-round. Small waterfalls formed by the valley create a scenic view in harmony with the surrounding forest, and the areas around the trails have coniferous forests, allowing visitors to enjoy refreshing forest bathing anytime. The clean mountain lodge, walking trails, water play area, and seminar room make it popular as a resting place not only for families but also for groups.
