Beomeosa Temple, founded by Uisang Daesa of the Silla dynasty, is considered one of the three major temples of Yeongnam along with Haeinsa and Tongdosa. It is one of the ten temples of the Hwaeom sect, with its founding recorded in the Silla Heungdeok King's era in historical records such as the Changgwon Sajeok and Gojokgi. However, it is relatively less known compared to Busan's most famous tourist spots, Haeundae and Nampo-dong. Located on the northern outskirts of Busan alongside Geumjeongsan, it is suitable for trekking or accessible by car. The road leading up to Sanseong Village is also a great driving course. After tasting the village specialties, Sanseong Makgeolli and goat bulgogi, refresh yourself at Dongnae Oncheon. How about finishing your day with Dongnae Pajeon, a savory pancake packed with seafood and green onions?

Geumjeongsan National Geopark is a mountain that forms the root of the land of Busan, created by the uplift of granite formed about 70 million years ago as magma cooled underground. Visitors can enjoy elegant granite landforms such as jagged cliffs, tors, nunataks, inselbergs, and blockstreams, shaped over long periods by wind and rain. The main peak Godangbong, along with Janggunbong, Wonhyobong, Sanghakbong, and the ridges connecting these peaks are mostly fortified with mountain fortresses. These peaks and ridges feature numerous tors, unique rock formations created by exposures of Cretaceous Bulguksa granitic bedrocks of various sizes. The geology composing Geumjeongsan consists of Gyeongsang sedimentary rock layers, volcanic rocks intruded or erupted through these layers, and later intrusions of Bulguksa granite and Masan rocks. Registered as a national geopark, Geumjeongsan boasts beautiful scenery well harmonized with its distinctive rocky formations and nature.
Beomeosa Temple is located on the eastern foothills of Geumjeongsan in Busan Gwangyeoksi and serves as the head temple of the 14th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. Along with Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon and Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan, Beomeosa is one of the three major temples of the southern region, making it a central site in Korean Buddhism. It was founded by Uisang Daesa in 678 (the 18th year of King Munmu of Silla's reign) and later rebuilt during the reign of King Heungdeok. At the time of reestablishment, it was a large temple complex with 360 monks' quarters, 360 parcels of land, and about 100 bonded servants. However, it was almost completely destroyed during the Imjin War. The current buildings were rebuilt in 1613 (the 5th year of King Gwanghaegun's reign) by Monk Myohwan and Monk Haemin. Beomeosa was established to realize a beautiful life on earth that is clear and pure like the ideal land of the Avatamsaka Sutra, where mutual help, understanding, and happiness abound. Historically, Beomeosa has produced many eminent monks and Seon masters, maintaining a long tradition and housing numerous cultural assets.
