Sangsang Walking Path is a bamboo walkway located where you can see Jisimdo Island. It is a trail created by Hotel Sangsang and features night lighting, so it is possible to take a walk even at night. The walking path is a short 200m trail lined with bamboo, with benches to rest midway. At the end of the path, there is a pebble beach where you can enjoy views of the seaside. The path connects to Geoje Namparang-gil Course 20 along the coast, allowing you to continue the walk if the short Sangsang Walking Path is not enough. Nearby attractions include Jisimdo, Jangseungpo Port, and Jisepo Port, making it a place where you can enjoy a fishing village trip along with sightseeing.
The coastal drive from Jangseungpo-dong to Neungpo-dong is a truly beautiful place, featuring coastal scenery including Yangjiam Rock. The 2.5 km circular road along the coastline is perfect for a light drive or a leisurely walk. Along the road, there is a dense pine forest below and low hills above, making it a great place to walk without a care. Even without being flashy, the simple relaxation and understated charm of the Jangseungpo coast are felt, clearing the cluttered mind as you walk along. Especially, the vast horizon and fishing boats gently floating on the sea seen from the drive resemble a traditional East Asian painting. Every January 1, many people from across the country gather here. Jangseungpo Mongdolgae, where visitors come to see the first sunrise of the year in Geoje, hosts the New Year's Sunrise Festival organized by Geoje City and offers a rich experience of the rising sun's energy along with the scent of the blue sea. Additionally, Yangjiam Park is located along this coastal road, serving as a rest area for citizens and attracting many visitors late into the night for jogging, exercise, and driving.
Jangseungpo Port is located at the easternmost point in Geoje, where on clear days, Tsushima Island in Japan can be seen with the naked eye. The coast features a ria coastline with beautiful natural scenery, and large cobblestones (rocks) shaped by waves over many years are preserved in their natural state. A 2.5 km circular road runs along the coast, bordered by dense pine trees on one side and low hills on the other, which are easy to walk up. Ferries operate from here to Haegeumgang, Oedo, and Jisimdo. Jangseungpo Port has the Miracle Road and the Songguyeongsin Hope Road themed around the Hungnam evacuation operation, depicting the background, process of the operation during the Korean War, and stories of refugees settling in Geoje through sculptures and murals. These paths are designed for storytelling as you walk along them. In particular, the Songguyeongsin Hope Road combines sculptures and lighting, enabling nighttime tours with the night scenery of Jangseungpo Port. Every year, the Jangseungpo Port Year-end Fireworks Festival is held, offering folk games, unique experiential events, various celebratory performances, and other attractions.
Jangseungpo Port began to develop as a fishing and trading port after a breakwater was built in 1930, and it was designated as an open port on June 25, 1965. At Jangseungpo Waterfront Park, there is a street called Jangseungpo Cha, a pocha (street food stall) area along the road at the edge of the waterfront park. Container pochas decorated with pretty paintings operate here, allowing visitors to enjoy delicious street food while sitting by the beach at night. Busking performances are frequently held, and various landscape lights, sculptures, and benches are installed, offering a cool sea breeze and beautiful night views. Various festivals, including beer festivals and fireworks festivals, are also held. The nighttime landscape lighting of the Geoje Culture and Arts Center at the far end of the waterfront park adds to the beauty.
In December 1950, during the Hungnam evacuation operation, 14,005 refugees arrived at Jangseungpo, Geoje Island. They left behind their beloved hometowns, relatives, and possessions to board ships in search of freedom and peace. The citizens of Geoje showed warm kindness and provided shelter, allowing the refugees to regain courage and hope in this unfamiliar land. In Geoje Island, with its deep waters and wide fields, the flame of life and will to live brought by these people came like a miracle and remains an inspiring testament to humanity and fraternity today. The route is divided into four sections: Section 1 - Boarding the Miracle Ship, Section 2 - The Miracle Voyage and Birth, Section 3 - The Miracle Settlement, and Section 4 - A Warm Winter and Flowers of Hope, with 14 storytelling points to experience.
