Geoje-do Prisoner of War Camp Historical Park was established on the site of the Geoje-do POW camp, which was installed to house North Korean and Chinese prisoners of war captured during the Korean War. It accommodated up to 173,000 war prisoners and operated as the largest POW camp during the Korean War. Despite the tragedy of war, it was a paradoxical stage where efforts were made to uphold humanity according to the Geneva Convention. Within the park is the remaining POW camp site, designated as Gyeongsangnam-do Cultural Property No. 99 in 1983.
