Introduction

봄바람이 불면 분홍빛 꽃가지가 낮게 드리워져 계곡 위로 커튼처럼 늘어지는 풍경이 펼쳐진다. 병곡마을은 덕유산 아래 해발 500m에 자리한 거창의 산골 마을로, 월성계곡을 따라 국내 손꼽히는 수양벚꽃 군락지가 형성되어 있다. 약 20여 년 전부터 심기 시작한 처진개벚나무 100여 그루가 울창하게 자라 봄이면 진분홍빛 벚꽃 터널을 이룬다. 일반 벚꽃보다 꽃잎의 채도가 짙고 가지가 아래로 길게 늘어져 바람에 흔들릴 때마다 분홍빛 폭포가 쏟아지는 듯한 색다른 분위기를 자아낸다. 병곡교에서 시작해 월성계곡을 따라 10~15분 오르는 구간은 꽃가지가 가장 낮게 드리워진 사진 명소로 알려져 있으며, 상류 방향으로 이어지는 계곡 트레킹 코스는 여름 물놀이 명소로도 각광받는다. 인근 명승 수승대와 연계 방문하기 좋다.
