Myeongji Mountain⛰️ 1252 m

Introduction

[Calm yet profoundly rich] Myeongji Mountain is not a strikingly beautiful peak, but it offers great height and depth. It is the second highest peak located in Gapyeong County, which has the most mountains and highest elevations in Gyeonggi Province. Particularly notable is the 70-ri ridge trail starting from Cheongusan (619m) in the south, passing Daegumsan (706m), Maebong (929.2m), and Yeoninsan (1068m), known as a popular winter hiking route. This ridge is the first mountain range around 1000 meters that blocks the northwestern seasonal winds. The mountain terrain forms a C-shape around the Ikgeun-ri valley to the east, where hiking trails are well developed. To the west, routes lead from Gwimok Pass toward Sangpan-ri or descend to Pocheon Ildong beyond Gwimokbong (1036m) and Gangssibong Pass. Due to inconvenient connecting transportation, it is less frequented, offering a tranquil experience. It is a suitable place for spring wild vegetable hikes. The highlight of hiking Myeongji Mountain is the panoramic mountain kingdom view from the summit, where one can uniquely experience a sense of isolation surrounded by mountains in Gyeonggi Province. The 6 km long Ikgeun-ri valley is good for summer water activities, and the autumn foliage is also well known. Although it appears gentle as a land mountain, its size justifies its value.
