Gyeonggi-do Gapyeong · Today’s itinerary

Gapyeong valley autumn foliage hot spot

In autumn, Gaepyeong is covered with autumn leaves everywhere. However, among the many mountains in Buk-myeon, Jomurakgol is especially prominent. The mountain terrain is so magnificent that birds danced joyfully, which is why it is called Jomurak (鳥舞樂). Here, with wide streams, green moss, and fiery red autumn leaves blending together, you can enjoy trekking while admiring the beautiful scenery.

명지산 트래킹 〉

Attraction ·

Seokryongsan (石龍山) means 'mountain with a stone dragon.' However, it is said there is no rock resembling a dragon on Seokryongsan. According to the Gapyeong County Chronicles, the old people called it Seokryongsan likely because of the rocks forming the valley of Jomurakgol. The rocks shaping the valley are formed as one continuous rock, and the well-carved shapes by the waterway give the impression of a beautiful sculpture. The valley's white waves curling and falling resemble a dragon, which is the origin of the name 'Seokryong.' Seokryongsan starts at Sambalkyo in Jeokmok-ri, Bukmyeon, ascends following the Jomurak Valley, passes Bokhodong Waterfall and Shumil Pass, and reaches the summit. It takes about 5 hours round trip to Seokryongsan and is popular as a summer hiking destination where you can enjoy both ridges and valleys.

Jomurak Valley 4

Jomurakgol in Jeokmok-ri, Buk-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, is a rugged valley located at the uppermost stream of Gapyeongcheon flowing from the foothills of Seokryongsan Mountain, stretching 6km with waterfalls, ponds, and pools in succession. The name Jomurak [鳥舞樂] is said to come from the beautiful scenery where birds dance happily, or from the chatter of mountain birds (jomurakgeoreo). Several pools such as Golbaengiso, Jungbangso, and Garaenamuso are connected, where wide streams narrow and waterfalls curve. At Bokhodeung Waterfall, the water hits the rocks and fans out like a fan, reaching a climax. Each pool is surrounded by rocks and trees, and cool air comes from cracks in the rocks that feels cold even in midsummer. To reach Jomurakgol, pass Gapyeong-eup and follow National Road 75 in Buk-myeon, passing the entrances to Yeoninsan and Myeongjisan mountains until you reach Sampalkyo Bridge; the stream continuing from this bridge is Seokryongcheon, and the valley flowing along the hiking trail is Jomurakgol. Hiking about 2 hours along the trail leads to the summit of Seokryongsan, with Bokhodeung Waterfall on the way as an unmissable sight. (Source: Gapyeong Culture & Tourism Homepage)
