Odaesan⛰️ 1565 m

Introduction

[A Buddhist Sacred Mountain with Dense Forests and Fine Rock Formations] Odaesan, meaning 'Mountain of Five Peaks,' spans a vast area of 660 square kilometers, measuring 20 km east-west and 33 km north-south. Its main peak, Birobong (1,563.4m), is surrounded by other high peaks including Sangwangbong (1,493m), Horyeongbong (1,561m), Durobong (1,422m), Dongdaesan (1,434m), and the eastern Noeunbong (1,338m). The mountain hosts significant Buddhist sites such as Woljeongsa, Sangwonsa, Jungdae Sajam, Bukdae Mireukam, Namdae Jijangam, Dongdae Gwaneumam, and Seodae Sujeongam, establishing it as a prominent Buddhist sacred mountain. Odaesan is broadly divided into the Woljeongsa area and the Sogeumgang area. The Woljeongsa area offers routes rich in cultural heritage, while the Sogeumgang area features scenic rock formations like Manmulsang and Sikdangam alongside waterfalls such as Guryong and Nagyeong, allowing visitors to enjoy valley hiking. Additionally, medicinal spring hikes are possible starting from Bangadari Mineral Spring. Odaesan showcases seasonal beauty: wildflowers in spring, cool valleys and dense forests in summer, vibrant autumn foliage, and snow-covered landscapes in winter, providing a magnificent experience year-round.
