Yeongjin Port is famous for its abundance of good fish, attracting many fishing enthusiasts who enjoy boat fishing. The rich harvest festival held every three years offers tourists a unique experience. ◎ Travel information to encounter the charm of the Korean Wave - The drama features this spot as where Eun-tak alone celebrated her nineteenth birthday, blowing out cake candles and fatefully met Kim Shin. Kim Shin gave the birthday girl a bunch of buckwheat flowers, whose flower meaning is 'lover,' hinting at their future. The breakwater where they stood is still crowded with people taking photos to remember the Goblin couple.
Located in Geojin, Goseong-gun, known as the largest golden yellowtail fishery in Korea and the hometown of yellowtail, Seongjin Hall has had a connection with yellowtail for over 40 years. Among the dishes made with yellowtail, the freshwater yellowtail stew (jiri) boasts the best flavor. Fresh yellowtail stew has been selected as one of the representative delicious dishes of Goseong. At Seongjin Restaurant, with over 10 years of operation based on extensive experience and skill, it serves the same clean, refreshing, savory, and umami taste of the old days. The side dishes are neat and clean with a good taste, and the owner is friendly. It is a rare restaurant that opens early for breakfast, making it a welcome place for those who want to eat in the morning.
Daejin Lighthouse is located on a protruding cape between Geojin Port and Machajin. The lighthouse tower is octagonal concrete, and its light flashes at 12-second intervals, visible from about 37 km at sea. Additionally, standing on the observation deck atop the lighthouse offers a beautiful view of the East Sea and is perfect for enjoying the fantastic sunrise and sunset. On clear days, you can see Haegumgang and even the North Korean region in the distance. When installed, Daejin Lighthouse consisted of one manned lighthouse and another auxiliary lighthouse. This was because its purpose was to mark the fishing boundary line (a boundary line connecting two lighthouses), beginning operation in January 1973. However, in 1991, the fishing limit line was adjusted 5.5 km north, ending this role, and on April 1, 1993, it was converted to a general lighthouse. Another feature of Daejin Lighthouse is that it remotely manages Jeojindo Lighthouse, the northernmost unmanned lighthouse on the East Coast. Jeojindo Lighthouse marks the fishing boundary line to prevent fishing vessels from illegally crossing north, with the front light 35m high and the rear light 20m high, composed of red and white square concrete towers. Currently, for military and safety reasons, access to the observation deck is restricted.
Standing on the 70m high Unification Observatory where the Military Demarcation Line and Southern Limit Line meet, you can see Guseonbong and Haegumgang of Geumgangsan nearby, and on clear days, Oknyubong, Chaehabong, and Ilchulbong are visible. The frontline outpost facing the Demilitarized Zone fence below gives a sense of the tension between South and North Korea. This is a representative tourist site in Goseong visited by over 1.5 million tourists annually, featuring religious facilities such as a statue of the Virgin Mary, Maitreya Buddha statue, and Jeonjin Iron Tower for displaced persons longing for the mountains and families left behind in the North and those praying for reunification, as well as security education exhibits like armored vehicles, tanks, and airplanes. The Donghae Line inter-Korean connecting road, opened in December 2004, enables views of the land route tours to Geumgangsan.
