[A mountain that is both grand and feminine] Sobaeksan (1439.5m) is one of the famous mountains along the Baekdudaegan mountain range. From the east, a magnificent ridge over 20km long connects peaks over 1000m, including Gukmangbong, Birobong, Yeonhwabong, and Dosolbong beyond Jukryeong. Among these, except for Dosolbong, the three main peaks of Sobaek (Gukmangbong, Birobong, Yeonhwabong) rise in a straight line about 13km apart. When there is a sea of clouds, the large peaks appear like islands floating in the vast ocean of clouds, creating a spectacular view. In May and June, azalea flowers form a red sea that attracts many hikers, especially along the section connecting the three main peaks. In August, the gentle grassland paths are covered with various alpine plants, resembling a botanical garden floating in the sky. The yew tree colony around Birobong is a natural monument preserving its primitive nature. The most historically significant valley in the grand yet gentle terrain of Sobaeksan is Heebanggol, where many hikers start their ascent.
