Dodam Sambong is the place where Jeong Do-jeon, who contributed to the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, spent his childhood, and it is said he was so captivated by the beauty of Dodam Sambong that he named himself Sambong. You can see the scenery of Dodam Sambong, loved by Toegye Yi Hwang, Gyeomjae Jeong Seon, and Danwon Kim Hong-do, right before your eyes. The Sambong Story Hall, located within the amusement park, exhibits materials showcasing Danyang's famous spots. By boarding the yellow sailboat, you can cross Seokmun to the Dodam Garden on the opposite side. Dodam Garden is famous for its planting of Cosmos flowers called Hwanghwa. Along with the scenery of Dodam Sambong, you can fully experience the beauty of nature.
A short walk upstream from Dodamsambong reveals stairs leading to an observatory; climbing about 300m along this path reveals a rainbow-shaped stone pillar known as Seokmun of Danyang. Seokmun is a spectacular natural rock formation where two large rock pillars are bridged by another rock, forming a natural gate. The sculptural beauty is so striking it is hard to believe it is natural, offering a scenery within a scenery. Inside the circular stone gate, the refreshing view of the Namhan River fills the space. Conversely, the view of Seokmun from a boat along the open Namhan River is also magnificent. For this grandeur, Seokmun is called the 2nd scenic spot among the Danyang Eight Views. To the left of Seokmun is a stone cave housing the Jade Paddy, said to have been ground by a celestial being. According to legend, Mago Halmi descended from heaven to fetch water but lost her hairpin. She dug the earth searching for it, which became 99 rice paddies. The scenery here was said to be better than heaven's, so she lived farming here for life. The vast fields were called ‘Seonin Okdap’ (Celestial Paddy) as they were cultivated by immortals. * Dodamsambong: Situated in the middle of the clear, blue Namhan River flows Dodamsambong. Centered on the dignified General Peak (husband peak), to its left is the coquettish Concubine Peak (daughter peak) and to its right the demure Daughter-in-law Peak (son peak). This site was a favorite retreat of Jeong Dojeon, a founding statesman of Joseon, who named himself Sambong after it. Legend says the peaks represent a husband who took a concubine to have a son, and his wife turned away in resentment. The form and names well reflect ancestral wisdom and imagination. On General Peak is Samdojeong, a hexagonal pavilion where the scholar Toegye composed a gem of a poem describing the red maple leaves, jade-clear waters, the sunset over Dodamsambong, and a blend of golden waves beneath stars and moonlight.
