Damyang, known worldwide for its bamboo groves, has been famous for bamboo fields since the Joseon Dynasty and is a region where bamboo products are primarily produced. The oldest record of Damyang Market is found in the 1770 publication 'Dongguk Munheon Bigo.' Although Damyang's bamboo product production history is long, the market was formed during the Japanese colonial period. The bamboo product market is a special market unique to Damyang, Jeollanam-do, and is held along the Damju-ri embankment walking path in Damyang-eup. Damyang's bamboo products are renowned nationwide for their affordable price and high quality. The bamboo grown in Damyang is resistant to cold and its elasticity is well suited for crafting. Currently, the market's distinctiveness has faded due to cheaper Chinese bamboo products, which is regrettable. The old Damyang market site has now been transformed into Damyang Noodle Street.
