Hwawon Dongsan, located in Dalseong-gun, Daegu Metropolitan City, is situated where the landscapes of the Nakdong River and Geumho River merge, and the willow and poplar trees lining the riverside provide beautiful shade. It is a place where, in the Silla period, an earthen fortress was built with a temporary palace where the king enjoyed viewing flowers. During the Joseon period, it served important roles in politics, transportation, and communication, including the installation of a beacon fire platform. The present site is adjacent to Samunjin Ferry Terminal and Samunjin Tavern Village near the Hwawon Dongsan parking lot. Walking along the waterside deck path suspended over the Nakdong River from Samunjin Ferry Terminal dock, visitors can enjoy the Dalseong Wetland Ecological Park as well. Hwawon Dongsan features an observatory built where the old beacon fire platform once stood, the Pilseunggiwon Monument in front of the observatory, park walking paths, and various trees including Chinese tallow trees. In spring, there are double cherry blossoms, Hwawon Pavilion, a grassy plaza, and a wildflower garden. Notably, there is also the American Continent View Photo Zone, designated by the Korea Tourism Organization as a scenic spot ideal for photography, and visitors can meet animal families at a small zoo. Additionally, Dalseong County Office operates a picnic area and an electric duck cart inside the park, making it a comfortable place to enjoy Samunjin Park along with the scenery of the Nakdong River with family.
