Tangeumdae Height was originally a mountain named Daemunsan Mountain. The scenery is amazing with rocky cliffs, the nearby Namhangang River, and lush pine forests. The place was named Tangeumdae because it was where Ureuk, the celebrated musician of the Silla dynasty (57 BC-AD 935), used to play the gayageum (traditional stringed instrument).

Chungju Tangeumdae is named after the site where Ureuk, one of Korea's three great musical saints, played the gayageum. It is historically significant as the place where General Shin Rip, following defeat by So Seo-haeng during the Imjin War, committed suicide. Originally called Daemunsan, this hill features scenic cliffs winding along the Namhan River and dense pine forests. The name Tangeumdae comes from Ureuk, a musician of the Gaya kingdom forcibly relocated here 1,400 years ago during the reign of Silla’s King Jinheung. Ureuk made his home in the cliffs of Tangeumdae, playing the gayageum while enjoying the scenery. Enchanted by his melodies, people gathered, forming a village named Tangeumdae. The beautiful landscape includes the Namhan River curving around cliffs, thick pine groves, and views from the terrace of the Namhan River, Gye-myeong Mountain, Namsan, Chungju city, and broad plains creating a picturesque panorama.

Chungju Lava Land is a children's theme park featuring cheerful and comic troublemaker Lava friends. It combines education, experience classes, event performances, and various complex amusement facilities. Located inside Chungju World Martial Arts Park, it is the only domestic complex kids' cultural content where visitors can enjoy both an indoor kids cafe and an outdoor amusement park. Covering 1,200 pyeong, it offers 9 types of rides and performances in indoor and outdoor theaters.

Chungbuk Chungju World Martial Arts Park's new name, Tangeum Park. This place boasts beautiful scenery along the embankment of the Namhan River, with walking and bicycle paths. Next to the park's main gate is a soccer field covered with green artificial turf, making it a great spot for exercise and leisure activities. Inside the park, there are facilities such as the World Martial Arts Museum, children's play area Lava Land, outdoor performance hall, stone garden, and stone maze. Adjacent Neungam Wetland is also developed as an ecological observatory park for learning, experience, tourism, and relaxation, becoming a beloved retreat for citizens.

국내에서 이곳에서만 볼 수 있는 바다의 천사 클리오네와 터널형 수조를 유유히 지나는 철갑상어가 방문객의 발걸음을 멈추게 하는 충주의 대표 생태 체험 공간이다. 충주아쿠아리움은 2025년 10월 탄금공원 능암늪지생태공원 일원에 문을 열었으며, 지상 3층 규모의 실내 아쿠아리움·야외동물원·능암늪지생태관람로를 갖춘 통합 전시 공간이다. 피라루쿠·타이거쇼벨노즈캣피쉬·알비노 송어 등 총 70여 종 2,400여 마리의 수중 생물을 만날 수 있으며, 충주 지역 민물고기와 세계 희귀 어종이 함께 전시된다. 야외동물원에는 유라시아 수달 한 쌍·라쿤·카피바라 등 인기 동물도 있다. 아이들이 직접 색칠한 물고기가 스크린 속 수조에서 헤엄치는 인터랙티브 체험존도 가족 단위 방문객에게 인기다. 개장 4개월 만에 누적 관람객 20만 명을 돌파하며 충주의 새로운 관광 명소로 자리 잡았다.

This is a shallow line-engraved rock-carved Buddha on a natural cliff in Jungangtap-myeon, Chungju-si. It is 4m high, with the central part of the statue showing a reddish tint due to iron content. The entire statue is carved in low relief, without depiction of hands, reflecting regional styles of the Goryeo period. Positioned uniquely to be viewed from boats floating on the river, it is believed to have been created to pray for the safety of water transport. The head and face are low-relief in high relief, while below the shoulders it is mostly incised lines. The head has short hair, the face is plump and full, with a prominently large nose. The ears are long, reaching the shoulders. Compared to the head, the shoulders are narrow, with a clearly defined triple-fold neck. Eyebrows are rounded with curved lines, and eyes are drawn as straight lines. The eyes’ corners appear torn, and there is no smile at the mouth, giving a solemn impression. The Buddha wears a one-piece robe spreading over both arms and covering both knees, with a round chest pendant that flows leaving only the center slightly defined. The whole body is depicted as if wrapped in clouds.
