The camping sites in Chungju highlight the charm of autumn camping called the ‘beauty of emptiness.’ They are close to Seoul and not very crowded on weekends. The Firefly Auto Camping Site was created on the site of an old elementary school, with towering plane trees dozens of meters high welcoming visitors at the entrance. It is a great course to enjoy the nearby Chungju Dam and Tangeumdae Hot Springs.

Chungju Dam, the largest concrete multipurpose dam in Korea, connects Jongmin-dong in Chungju-si and Jodong-ri in Dongryang-myeon. It blocks the Namhan River to secure water resources, prevent flood damage, and generate electricity. On the left bank at the top of the dam, there is a water exhibition hall, a memorial tower, and rest areas. On the right bank at the top, there is a waterwheel rest area, a helipad, and Chungju Naru, where visitors can board cruise boats on Chungju Lake created by the dam. The dam is 97.5 meters high, 447 meters long, and has a storage capacity of 2.75 billion square meters. Downstream of the main dam, there is a regulating dam 21 meters high and 480.7 meters long.

The National Treasure, the 7-story stone pagoda of Chungju Tappyeong-ri, is a stone pagoda from the Unified Silla period that harmonizes well with the beautiful scenery of the Namhan River. It is the largest among stone pagodas built at that time, and is also called Jungangtap because it is located in the central part of Korea. Around Jungangtap, there is a sculpture park on a wide lawn, and the Chungju Museum and Liquor Museum are located nearby. Additionally, Tanggeum Lake, formed by the Namhan River and the adjacent Jojeongji Dam, offers water leisure activities in summer, presenting Chungju as a resort and leisure sports destination. Chungju Tangeumdae is named after the site where Ureuk, one of Korea's three great musical saints, played the gayageum. It is historically significant as the place where General Shin Rip, following defeat by So Seo-haeng during the Imjin War, committed suicide. Originally called Daemunsan, this hill features scenic cliffs winding along the Namhan River and dense pine forests. The name Tangeumdae comes from Ureuk, a musician of the Gaya kingdom forcibly relocated here 1,400 years ago during the reign of Silla’s King Jinheung. Ureuk made his home in the cliffs of Tangeumdae, playing the gayageum while enjoying the scenery. Enchanted by his melodies, people gathered, forming a village named Tangeumdae. The beautiful landscape includes the Namhan River curving around cliffs, thick pine groves, and views from the terrace of the Namhan River, Gye-myeong Mountain, Namsan, Chungju city, and broad plains creating a picturesque panorama.
The Suanbo Oncheon Tourist Special Zone is a traditional hot spring resort. It is known as Korea's first naturally flowing hot spring, said to have existed for 30,000 years, and its benefits are well recognized. The hot spring water, flowing from 250 meters underground, is mildly alkaline. Managed directly by Chungju City, the hot spring water contains beneficial far-infrared radiation and various minerals. Because of this, Suanbo Oncheon has attracted many visitors seeking treatment and relaxation since ancient times. At the center of Suanbo Oncheon is Muldang Park, where a shallow stream of hot spring water flows. Most travelers use accommodations such as hotels and motels within the Suanbo Oncheon area to enjoy the hot spring baths. Nearby, there are many natural attractions to explore, including Wolaksan Mountain, Chungju Lake, and Songgye Valley.
