Chungju Danhosa Temple is a branch temple of the Taego Order of Korean Buddhism and was reconstructed during the reign of King Sukjong in the late Joseon Dynasty. It was called 'Yaksa' at the time of reconstruction and renamed Danhosa in 1954, continuing to the present. Existing buildings include the main hall (Daeungjeon), Yaksa Hall, Yongwang Hall, and the monk's quarters, built as three-bay gabled houses. Inside Yaksa Hall is a seated iron Buddha statue designated as a treasure in 1976, estimated to have been made in the 11th century. This iron Buddha is a precious cultural artifact from the Goryeo period and aids in the study of regional artistic schools. Additionally, various cultural properties can be found, such as the Chungju Danhosa three-story stone pagoda, the seated statue of Avalokitesvara (a tangible cultural property of Chungcheongbuk-do), and the standing Maitreya Buddha. At Danhosa, regular Dharma meetings are held on the first and third Sundays of every month, as well as on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month.
Eoje Dalcheon Chungnyeolsa Stele is a monument commemorating the achievements of the Joseon Dynasty's renowned general Im Gyeong-eop. Im Gyeong-eop was a distinguished general during King Injo's reign who suppressed the Ming Dynasty's rebels in 1633 and defended Baekmasan Fortress against the Qing Dynasty's attacks during the Byeongjahoran War. He passed the military examination in 1618 and was appointed to the rank of general by the Ming Emperor for his achievements in suppressing Ming rebels in 1633. During the Byeongjahoran War, he defended Baekmasan Fortress to slow the Qing army's advance. He steadfastly adhered to a pro-Ming and anti-Qing policy, was captured by the Qing, implicated in the imprisonment of Sim Gi-won, repatriated to Joseon, and died in prison. The stele is currently erected inside a pavilion next to the Jeongnyeolbi of the Wansan Lee clan on the right side of the shrine within Chungju Im Chungmin Gong Chungnyeolsa. The front of the stele is inscribed with the title 'Eoje Dalcheon Chungnyeolsa Bi (御製達川忠烈祠碑)'. The calligraphy was done by Yi Byeong-mo, Minister of Rites and Director of the Institute for Royal Protocol, while the seal script was written by Yun Dong-seom, Minister of Personnel and holder of the title Boguk Sungnok Daebu, by royal command. During King Sukjong's reign, Im Gyeong-eop received the posthumous title Chungmin, and in King Yeongjo's reign, the shrine was named Chungnyeol. Later, in King Jeongjo's reign, the main gate and stele honoring Im Gyeong-eop were established. It is a good place to visit along with Chungnyeolsa and to learn about Korean history.
