[The highest peak of the characterless Yeongnam Alps] The Yeongnam Alps, named by mountaineers from Busan, is a concept encompassing mountains over 1,000 meters in the lower part of the Nakdong Jeongmaek range. This mountain range, shaped like the Chinese character '下' reflected in a mirror, is connected by high ridges, so individually none of the peaks stand out remarkably. The small elevation difference between ridge saddles and summits contributes to this. Also, when viewed from the east where open areas spread, the peaks do not protrude prominently but recede behind the ridge line. Except for Yeongchwisan at the southernmost point, the peaks are just parts of a great wall that slightly rises and falls at high altitude. Gajisan, the highest peak, is no exception among them. Moreover, like Neungdongsan, it is located at a ridge junction, which further diminishes its distinctiveness. Although it is a provincial park, the northern side towards Cheongdo has blocked all but two mountain trails.
Eonyang is the starting point. From Eonyang, take the bus to Seoknamsa (routes 328, 807) every 20 minutes. Buses run between Ulsan and Eonyang every 15 minutes and between Busan and Eonyang every 20 minutes. To reach Hobakso, take the direct bus to Miryang from Seoknamsa, which runs 10 times a day; ask the driver to stop or get off at Nammyung-ri. By car, use the Gyeongbu Expressway Seoul-san IC → Route 24 towards Seoknamsa.
