Since its opening in 1925, it has served as the commercial center of the Punggak area and flourished the most during the 1970s and 80s. From early morning until 5 PM, local specialties such as Punggak red chili peppers and watermelons, as well as various daily necessities, are traded. In 1994, the market building was renovated and has been used as an information exchange place for rural people. Famous local specialties include Punggak native chili peppers, Chasan watermelons, Cheongdo Bansi persimmons, peaches, and onions. Traditional food processing factories produce Bitgoeul doenjang, Joseon doenjang, Pungnyeon doenjang, gochujang, meju, soy sauce, Masil persimmon vinegar, Cheongdo persimmon vinegar, and raw kalguksu noodles.
