Geomgye Seowon is a seowon established by the loyal official Mun Hyogong Jeon Sin, who served four kings in the late Goryeo period, after he retired to his hometown to educate future scholars. Inside the seowon are Yanghyeonsa, the Dan-so of the founding ancestor of the Cheonan Jeon clan, and the Jae-sil. Behind Yanghyeonsa is the ancestral tomb of the Cheonan Jeon clan, and in front of it, to the left and right, are the Dan-so of Jeon Sin's father Jeon Seung and Jeon Sin himself, with a Seoldanbi monument standing beside them. Below the Dan-so are the ancestral shrines Chungpun-sa and Yanghyeonsa situated side by side, each with a Sammun gate in front. Yanghyeonsa is a shrine enshrining the memorial tablets of Mun Hyogong Jeon Sin (1276–1339), a civil official of the late Goryeo dynasty, and Lee Hyeop (1583–1665), a Joseon scholar and son-in-law of Jeon Deukjung of the Cheonan Jeon clan. Every year on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, local Confucian scholars and descendants gather to honor their ancestors’ spirits and hold memorial rites for the perpetuation and development of traditional culture. There is also a 300-year-old quince tree designated as a protected tree by Cheonan city, and the surroundings are filled with blooming Rhododendron mucronulatum, boasting beautiful scenery.
