Amnam Park, boasting coastal scenic views, is a natural park in the Jinjeongsan area. The sea views visible through the coastal pine forest and the boats gently floating above present a picturesque scene. It takes about an hour to walk around the park following the walking trails. Along the way, at the rest plaza with observatories and benches, you can overlook the wide-open sea. The small island Dudo and the white lighthouse standing tall there come into view like a painting.
Around 80 to 70 million years ago at the end of the Mesozoic Cretaceous period, the Dongnae fault to the east and the Yangsan fault to the west moved, causing the land between the two faults to open and sink, forming the bowl-shaped Dadaepo basin. A large lake was created in this basin, leading to the accumulation of thick sedimentary layers called the Dadaepo Formation. The Dadaepo Formation is further divided into the lower and upper Dadaepo formations based on the characteristics of the rocks (presence of red layers, volcanic material content) and differences in depositional environment. At Songdo Peninsula, the Dadaepo Formation, selected as one of Korea's 150 significant geological outcrops, appears continuously along the coast from lower to upper layers. Alongside the landscape of Songdo Beach, Korea's first public beach, visitors can enjoy geological records such as dinosaur egg nest fossils, calcareous paleosols, veins, and faults.
Located 3 km from Busan Jagalchi Market, this beach was the first to open in Busan in 1913. From 2000, a maintenance project lasting over five years expanded the reduced sandy beach, installed a fountain, and transformed it into a beachfront park. Nearby are a seafood market and Amnam Park. The beach area, first developed in 1913, connects to Amnam Park—a city natural park opened in April 1996 after being a military protection zone—and Dudo Park, famous for sea fishing. Songdo features dense primeval forest, naturally preserved grotesque rocks, and tranquil ocean views with Busan’s symbol, seagulls, and Yeongdo in the distance. The area offers various accommodations and food options, with convenient facilities like a cloud bridge, trails, boat docks, and parking lots. Amnam Park along the Songdo coast is a coastal ecological park with an observatory offering views of Songdo coast and Busan’s South Port, a 3.8 km walking trail, roadside cafes, and numerous raw fish restaurants. In Bumin-dong 3-ga, Seo-gu, Busan, the Temporary Capital Memorial Hall, used as the presidential residence during the Korean War when Busan was the temporary capital for three years, is located. Songdo is situated at the southern end of Janggun Peninsula in Amnam-dong, Seo-gu, an area with a turbulent history.
Songdo Beach is 800 meters long and 50 meters wide. The average water level is 1~1.5 meters. It was one of the first beaches to open in Korea in 1913. In 2000, the beach underwent a comprehensive 5-year reconstruction and reopened with restored and expanded coastlines and the addition of several fountains. Nearby attractions include Busan’s famed Jagalchi Seafood Market and Amnam Park. Amnam Park was a military protected area that opened to the public as a nature park in April 1996. Amnam Park, as well as Dudo Park, a famous sea fishing spot, connects to Songdo, where visitors can see a spectacular landscape with seagulls, a symbol of busan, and the quiet seascape with Yeongdo Island in the distance.
The area has a variety of accommodation and dining options, and is well equipped with convenience facilities such as an overpass, promenade, boat yard, and parking lot. Amnam Park on the Songdo coast is a coastal ecological park. It has an observatory, a 3.8-kilometer promenade, a roadside cafe, and raw fish restaurants with a panoramic view of the Songdo coast and Busan Namhang Port. Another historically important attraction in the area is the Provisional Capital Memorial Hall that was used as the presidential residence for three years when Busan was the temporary capital during the Korean War.
