Geumsusa Temple is a quaint temple located below Gubong Mountain. In front of the temple stairs, there is a well-developed sanbok road, and a bus stop right there, making it known as a temple in the city center convenient for public transportation. Geumsusa is also famous as the head temple of the Wonhyo sect of Korean Buddhism. This place, where the late Jeong Beop Hong, the head of Wonhyo sect who passed away in 2003, resided, has established itself as a refuge for numerous monks and laypeople dedicated to upholding the legacy and spirit of Monk Wonhyo. It is no exaggeration to say that this temple shines with the harmonious and unobstructed philosophy of Wonhyo, who sought to awaken sentient beings among the general populace rather than in the mountains. Honoring the legacy of the immortal saint Wonhyo born from Korean Buddhism and the footprints of the patriotic monk Samyeong who saved the nation in times of crisis, Gugye Mountain Geumsusa proudly raises the banner of spreading the Buddha's teachings on this historic ground. Additionally, within the grounds of Geumsusa is the Hokuk Yeonggak (Patriotic Spirit Hall), which enshrines memorial tablets of the 33 national representatives of the 1919 March 1st Independence Movement Declaration and 22 patriotic independence fighters such as An Jung-geun, Kim Jwa-jin, Ahn Chang-ho, and Yun Bong-gil, holding annual memorial services which solidify its status as a patriotic spiritual site.
