The Gupo Market March 1st Manse Movement was a major independence movement on March 29, 1919, when about 1,200 people held a large-scale Manse demonstration at Gupo Market, resulting in 42 people, including teacher Kim Ok-gyeom, being imprisoned. This was a representative independence movement in Busan and significant because, unlike other regions where the core participants were mainly Confucian scholars and students, it was led by merchants, workers, and the common people.
