Haseom is an island belonging to Byeonsan Peninsula National Park in Buan, Jeonbuk, located about 2km from Gosapo Beach and about 1km from Seongcheon Port. The island's name uses the lotus character 'Ha (荷)' because it looks like a lotus floating on the sea, and sometimes the shrimp character 'Ha (鰕)' because it resembles a curled shrimp. Over 200 species of plants grow on Haseom, and visitors can enjoy the scent of pine and the pine breeze from the dense pine forest. On the south side of the island, there is a small white sand beach where one can enjoy a quiet swim during summer. Currently, the island is owned by the Wonbulgyo foundation and used as a marine training center; entry is allowed only for reserved Wonbulgyo followers or accompanying general visitors. When the tidal path opens, visitors can walk to the island and experience the mudflat.
Suseongdang is a ritual shrine located in Gyeokpori, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun. It is the only remaining communal village shrine in this coastal village, housed in a single-room tiled roof building measuring 4 pyeong. The shrine enshrines Gaeyanghalmi, the goddess overseeing the Chilsan Sea, along with her eight daughters. Every year on the 14th day of the first lunar month, a village shrine festival is held here. Gaeyanghalmi is a very tall goddess who wears wooden clogs and walks across the West Sea, filling deep waters and controlling storms to protect fishermen and passing ships. Excavations in 1992 uncovered artifacts dating from the late 3rd century to early 7th century from Baekje, Gaya, Unified Silla, Joseon, as well as ancient China and Japan. These artifacts confirm that people from China, Japan, and other countries also participated in the rituals here, and that various ritual items, including ceremonial vessels, were buried in the ground after the ceremonies. Nearby are Jeokbyeokgang and Chaeseokgang, and the shrine can be visited leisurely by walking the Seohaerang-gil and Buan Masil-gil trails.
Refers to an area of about 2 km along the coast of Gyeokpo-ri, Byeonsan-myeon, Buan-gun, consisting of layered cliff rocks and rocky outcrops. This area, along with Chaeseokgang, is designated as the Jeonbuk West Coast Geopark. The northern side of Jukmak Village, which is the end of Chaeseokgang, is Jeokbyeokgang, and the southern side includes Chaeseokgang and Gyeokpo Beach. The name Chaeseokgang comes from the Chinese Jeokbyeokgang where Song poet Su Dongpo played, signifying its outstanding scenery. Jeokbyeokgang, which creates the beautiful view of Byeonsan Beach, has a coastline made of reddish rocks and cliffs, harmonizing mystically with the clear water, especially at sunset when the rocks are dyed crimson, creating a spectacular scene. The Susukdang on Yongdusan cliff at Jeokbyeokgang, the Daemagol beneath the cliff in front, and the Cheolma of Yeoulgool are areas rich in fishing folk traditions and local beliefs. Jeokbyeokgang is covered with rapeseed flowers in spring and cosmos fields in autumn, making it an ideal spot for flower viewing, driving along the winding coast to watch the sunset, or walking the beautiful coastal paths.
This sedimentary rock, formed about 70 million years ago from the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era under marine erosion, consists of the Gyeokpori Formation including conglomerate over conglomerate, alternating layers of conglomerate and sandstone, sandstone and mudstone, shale, and volcanic ash. This sedimentary environment suggests this area was once a deep lake where volcanic ejecta settled on the lakebed. Faults, folds, intrusion structures, and wave-cut platforms are also easily observed in these cliffs, making it excellent for studying topography and geology. Wave erosion has created sea cliffs, flat wave-cut platforms, and sea caves. The bottom of Chaeseokgang features potholes formed through crust and wave action, along with tidal pools formed by seawater trapped during high tide. ◎ Travel info to experience the charm of cold currents - The drama begins where Ban Ji-eum, carrying memories of a past life like waves, slowly walks at the towering cliffs and sea caves. The sedimentary rock formed since about 70 million years ago during the Cretaceous period seems to reflect the long years she has endured.
Along the western coast of the Byeonsan Peninsula, there are several beautiful beaches such as Byeonsan Beach and Gyeokpo Beach. All feature white sandy beaches and stunning coastlines, widely loved by many and bustling with vacationers in summer. At the southwestern tip of the Byeonsan Peninsula lies Mohang Beach, a cozy beach with a splendid pine forest. The soft sandy beach and coastal cliffs create a beautiful scene, and pine trees surround the beach snugly, offering a remarkable view. Mohang Village, with its cluster of ilex trees, is located by this Mohang Beach. As a fishing village by the sea, fishing for webfoot octopus, cuttlefish, and gizzard shad takes precedence over agriculture. Staying in the Mohang Farmstay Village allows visitors to enjoy fresh and mild webfoot octopus sashimi in spring, and abundant gizzard shad in autumn. Visitors can also relish a quiet beach experience at Mohang Beach and enjoy the pleasure of digging for clams and octopus in nearby mudflats. The coastal road around the village is famous for its beautiful scenery and is a top driving route. Along this road, visitors can see the ilex tree cluster designated as a Natural Monument. Near the village, there is Geumguwon Sculpture Park, Korea's first private sculpture park, and Chaeseokgang, a scenic rock formation popular for swimming in summer and frequently used for photo and film shoots.
